Hennepin Healthcare Collectives

The Collectives are employee affinity groups where Hennepin Healthcare team members can gather with others who share their identities, build relationships and professional networks, and find a deeper sense of belonging. They also advise the organization on strategies to eliminate inequities and create a healthy culture of belonging.

The American Indian Collective

To celebrate and promote American Indian culture at Hennepin Healthcare through collaborative community relationships.

We are coming together to create belonging and to highlight the diverse voices of the Asian community. We hope to dismantle white supremacist stereotypes by addressing orientalism and the model minority myth to address harms to the Asian community and to increase solidarity with BIPOC and marginalized communities. We will promote healing and address the ways that our communities face violence from microaggressions to detention, removal, deportation, and war. We will work to heal ourselves and our communities to build a better world.

To promote a culture where Black and African Americans are treated with equality, respect and receive the care they deserve.

Eliminate stereotypes and insults through increased knowledge of the historical pain and trauma.

The Latinx Collective seeks to promote equity and create a sense of belonging, dignity and respect for our Latinx team members.  Our desire is for Hennepin Healthcare to becomes a highly regarded employer of diverse communities. We aim to educate the broader Hennepin Healthcare team about the diversity and uniqueness of Latinx culture while combating stigma and stereotypes. Our Collective plans to collaborate with others internally and externally to advocate for systems that are equitable, culturally sensitive, safe, and meet our communities’ and patients’ needs.

Mission

We exist for our employees and community to ensure that equity is at the forefront in everything we do by providing space for people to share their experiences and allow their voices to be heard.

Vision

Integrate the lived experiences and recommendations from our members to inform other HHS staff of the lack of equity in our policies, practices, procedures that will eliminate disparities in health outcomes, wealth and education.

Our collective is committed to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for team members, patients, and families who are members and allies of the LGBTQ+ community. Together we will partner with the LGBTQ+ community as a whole, both internally and externally, of Hennepin Healthcare to create a diverse, welcoming environment.

  • We will take an intersectional approach to advocate and support our cohorts who experience racism, ableism, xenophobia, or discrimination based on their identities.
  • We will focus on providing positive educational opportunities for our team and leaders.
  • We will celebrate and encourage our LGBTQ+ team members’ successes and work to develop strategies to eliminate societal constructs and create change to address health and wellness inequities within our healthcare system.

Muslim Collective Mission Statement

The Muslim collective is dedicated to establishing a workplace environment that values and supports Muslim employees and allies. Our collective is focused on fostering a sense of belonging and safety for Muslim employees at HHS. In addition, to fostering a sense of belonging our Collective also seeks to increase awareness of Islamic practices among non-Muslim colleagues. Ultimately, our goal is to ensure that Muslim staff members and those within the HHS Community feel empowered, appreciated, and accepted within the organization.

Our collective seeks to uplift and support the diverse voices and needs of the Muslim community that are inclusive of our team members, patients, and the greater community.

  • We hope to provide authentic narratives and awareness of Islam and the Muslim world, through events, educational opportunities, and celebrations that foster a deeper understanding of Muslim communities both here in the U.S. and globally.
  • We will offer a space of empathy and healing from racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and all the other violent systems of oppression that the Muslim community is impacted by.
  • We will collaborate in solidarity with other collectives with whom we have shared experiences and struggles.
  • We will work to create a space where Muslims feel a sense of belonging and continue to work towards a justice-driven and healthier world.

We are a BIPOC community of different backgrounds coming together to promote equality, inclusivity, and diverse voices in cross-collaboration. As members of various groups (including, but not limited to, different socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, languages, and religions, etc.), we are complex with intersectionality of identities that we believe should be honored. We will promote healing and equality within our professional areas to mindfully encourage well-being. Through this approach, understanding that we all carry biases, we are committed to creating a diverse, welcoming community that celebrates and honors all differences.
