Who We Are

The RISE team provides on-site, prompt, and confidential support for physical, mental, and financial well-being to residents and fellows employed by Hennepin Healthcare. Their comprehensive services are designed to enhance wellness, mitigate burnout, and alleviate distress by building on strengths and fostering resilience.

We are here to help address any problems or concerns, personal or professional. 

You do not need to be in crisis to talk or consult with RISE.

mary becker, psychologist

Mary Becker, PhD, LP

Psychology

Dr. Becker has a special interest in supporting the mental health of healthcare workers and trainees. She has worked with residents since 2015 and provides psychotherapy for mental health concerns, and workplace stress, and to support personal growth and well-being.  

john bodnar, psychiatrist

John Bodnar, DO

Psychiatry

Dr. Bodnar has special interests in substance use and addiction treatment as well as the treatment of psychological trauma and mood disorders.

elizabeth goelz

Elizabeth Goelz, MD

Internal Medicine

Dr. Goelz is a board-certified Internal Medicine physician who focuses her clinical time on care for the caregivers such as healthcare workers, as well as those experiencing homelessness.

Hyun-Soo Lee

Hyun-Soo Lee PhD, LP

Psychology

Dr. Lee specializes in psychotherapy interventions for depression, anxiety, trauma, and alcohol/substance use problems.

Barbara Johnson, MD

Psychiatry

Dr. Johnson has been at Hennepin her entire career with special interest in patients living with severe and persistent mental illness. She has worked as a psychiatrist in the RISE program with special interest in resident mental health since 2019 .

Jennifer Sabelko

Jennifer Sabelko, OTR/L

Medical Educational Wellness Program Manager

Jen provides oversite of the resident/fellow health and wellness program, assists in planning and implementation of RISE services, and serves as a liaison to facilitate access to resources and support services.

Psychology

Dr. Santana specializes in complex trauma, self-care, and vocational psychology.

David Seidelmann

David Seidelmann, CFP®

Financial Planner

Dave has been working with the residents and fellows at Hennepin since 2017. He is a free resource available to discuss your personal financial needs.  Common topics include student loans, cash flow/budgeting, disability insurance, and investments.

katie thorsness

Katie Baustian-Thorsness, MD

Psychiatry

Dr. Thorsness is part of the multidisciplinary Redleaf Center for Family Healing team, specializing in perinatal psychiatry. She has additional expertise in physician-trainee mental health.

Psychiatry

Allisa is part of the Redleaf Center for Family Healing. She provides mental health and parenting support for residents and families.

Meghan Mary Walsh, MD, MPH

Hospitalist

Dr. Walsh is the Chief Academic and Research Officer at Hennepin Healthcare, the Associate Dean for Affiliate Hospitals, and an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. She has championed wellbeing for physicians in training and helped create the RISE program at Hennepin Healthcare.
